| I have one week left in the Philippines and have not posted a darn thing on xanga.
This is largely because Facebook is so much better than xanga. Facebook lets me inject videos and pictures into a network that other people are more likely to access.
So, if you want to see all the stuff I've been doing for the last 2 months. Consider logging onto Facebook, and checking it out.
Thoughts about the Philippines:
1. Being a missionary doesn't make me more spiritual. I wish it did, but it doesn't. I'm just as evil here as in the US, and I'm just as holy, too.
2. The Philippines is the most beautiful country I've ever been to.
3. Filipinas are some of the most beautiful girls I've ever met.
4. There are a lot of cool Muslims in the Philippines. Not all Muslims are terrorists. Not all Americans hate Muslims.
5. I have to admit - Movie theaters are better here. I don't know how that's possible (or why that surprises me so much), but it's true.
6. Building a relationship with a person and sharing Jesus with them is generally better (more effective, more authentic, more Jesus-like) than event-based evangelism - though there is a place for event-based evangelism also (which is more Paul-like; who was inspired by the Spirit, of course).
7. It's ok to live comfortably in an impoverished country. A missionary's job is not to be poor, but to have good relationships with his community, and to love people.
8. Working with the hope that people will have a relationship with Jesus is important, but our work should be similar to that of Jesus' - who "died for us while we were yet sinners" (Romans 5:8).
9. American movies often portray the American government as corrupt. Foreigners watch more American movies that their own film productions (this is true in most countries - India might be the exception). Thus, after watching hundreds of movies, the world tries to read between the lines. Their conclusion - the American government is corrupt and film makers are rebels - trying to hint (through fiction) at an awful truth.
10. Despite the differences, I could definitely live here.

| I've been trying to read Moby Dick for four months. I decided to skip two chapters because they have absolutely nothing to do with the story.
Upon completion of the story, I will tell people, "I just read Moby Dick."
Is this lying? Do I have to admit that I skipped a couple chapters?

| I've had many comments about the tradition I enacted on Facebook in which girls are required to "lay a smooch on my cheek" in celebration of my nephew's birth. Lest you think this was entirely my idea, I present to you the background of this wonderful tradition as it was invented less than a week ago. ***
Before I put anything up on Facebook, my nephew asked me hold him for a while so we could have a talk. Man-to-man.
He looked up at me and said:
"Uncle Adam, between feedings and sleeping, I've been thinking. You and
I have been placed on this Earth for a purpose, no? To feed the hungry,
uphold the cause of the widow & orphan, and to encourage our
brothers and sisters."
Deep in thought, he sucked his thumb
for a moment, then put it away like a British gentleman would remove a
cigarette. He continued.
"I've gotten a good look at you over
the last six days, Uncle Adam, and I can tell we share some highly
attractive features. Let us use this gift! Together we can encourage
our sisters! With kisses! - You like kisses, right?"
I said, "Everybody loves kisses."
He
said, "Of course, everybody does! It's fun for the kisser and the kissee! My
birth has made you happier than you have ever been! Please, please,
please - share this happiness with the world!"
Me: "But how? Just ask them to kiss me?"
Hudson: "No, no, no."
He sighed and rolled his eyes.
Hudson:
"You should be kissed to celebrate my life! But not on the lips. Obviously they will want to, but you can't let them. Only on the cheek."
He held out his teeny-tiny, beautiful, confident, little hand.
Hudson: "Deal?"
I shook his hand.
Hudson: "It's settled. Now, go forth and get kissed in honor of my birth!"
*** So, girls, come kiss me. It's ok.
My nephew says so.
